Connect Instagram, Facebook and X with your own apps.
Ghost Protocol posts through developer apps that belong to you, not a shared app that one bad actor can get shut off for everyone. Setting them up sounds technical. It isn't: no code, about 25 minutes, once.
Why your own apps?
Instagram, Facebook and X only let software post for you through a developer app. Most scheduling tools use one shared app for all their customers. That's simpler, but it means one customer breaking the rules can get the whole app restricted, and everyone's posting stops with it.
With Ghost Protocol, the apps are yours. Your posting never depends on anyone else, and your connection is between you and the platform.
What you need
What it costs
Meta (Instagram and Facebook) doesn't charge for posting through your own app. X does, and since it's your app, X bills you directly.
| A post | $0.015 |
| A post that contains a link | $0.20 |
| Example: 2 posts a day, no links, for a month (about 60 posts) | about $0.90 |
| Example: 1 link post a day for a month (about 30 posts) | about $6.00 |
X sets these prices and has changed them several times; check X's current pricing. You can also set a spending limit in X's developer console. Prefer not to pay X at all? Ghost Protocol works with just Instagram and Facebook.
Instagram and Facebook (about 15 minutes)
- Switch Instagram to a professional account. In the Instagram app: Settings, then Account type and tools, then switch to Business or Creator.
- Link Instagram to your Facebook Page. From your Facebook Page's settings, connect your Instagram account. Ghost Protocol checks this for you later.
- Open a Meta developer account. Go to developers.facebook.com and sign in with the Facebook account that manages your Page.
- Create an app. Ghost Protocol shows you which options to pick on each screen, which permissions to add (posting to your Page and your Instagram), and where to find the keys to paste back in.
- Connect. Paste the keys into Ghost Protocol and sign in with Facebook when it asks. You're the app's owner, posting only to accounts you manage.
X (about 10 minutes)
- Sign up for the X developer platform at developer.x.com with your X account.
- Add a payment method and credits, and set a monthly spending limit if you like.
- Create an app and give it permission to read and write, so it can post.
- Copy the app's keys into Ghost Protocol. It tells you exactly which ones and checks them.
Your first test post
Before anything goes live, practice mode shows exactly what would post and when. Then each account makes one test post you can see and delete, so you know the connection works before Ghost Protocol starts posting for you.
Questions
Do I need to know how to code?
No. It's all forms and buttons on Meta's and X's websites. Ghost Protocol tells you what to click and checks each step.
Is it safe to give Ghost Protocol my keys?
Your app keys and sign-ins are encrypted on servers we own and run, and never shared or sold. With the self-hosted Windows version, they never leave your own PC.
Can I skip X?
Yes. Connect only the platforms you want. Plenty of people use just Instagram and Facebook.
Can you set it up with me?
Yes. Book a time or call (757) 635-6715 and we'll do it together on a call.
Platform details checked October 2026 from Meta's and X's developer documentation.
